Causes

Rooted in Grit. Raised for Good. Giving Back's Just How We're Built.

We believe in lending a hand, lifting each other up, and putting heart into everything we do. That's why supporting causes is at the core of Low country Grit. Whether it's helping a rescue, backing a local artist, or shining a light on a story that matters.

Tybee Island Marine Science Center

May 1st is the start of sea turtle nesting season on the Georgia coast. Our Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project volunteers walk the beach every morning looking for turtle tracks. Once tracks are found, the nest is located and blocked off with caution tape.

50 days after the nest is found, volunteers start sitting with the nest at night, awaiting the 100 or so babies that will emerge any night. When the nest hatches, or “boils” (so many small bodies moving makes the sand look like it’s boiling), volunteers supervise and protect babies as they make their way to the water. Following the boil, volunteers wait an additional five days before performing an excavation to allow any late hatchlings to emerge naturally.

This is just one story of programming that TIMSC offers to support our coast line! With a mission to cultivate a responsible stewardship of coastal Georgia's natural resources through education, conservation, and research, they offer so much more!

Renegade Paws Rescue

Renegade Rescue began in the summer of 2019 with a small budget and a big mission to save dogs others had given up on. What started as a foster-based effort has grown into a powerful community movement.

In 2023, Renegade launched a capital campaign and, thanks to overwhelming support, purchased a small shelter with kennels to house dogs and cats waiting for foster or forever homes. Expanding from a dozen fosters to over 300 families in just a few years, Renegade continues to grow. With their community outreach program, Renegade offers free spay/neuter services and pet food to help keep animals in loving homes. Helping the tough cases such as pit bulls or homelessness, Renegade never gives up!

As co-founder and director, Jennifer Taylor says, “We work around the clock because these innocent souls need us, and they’re worth every ounce of effort.”

The Foundation’s mission is to promote education, conservation, and public outreach in service to the Sanctuary. Through experiential learning programs, citizen science initiatives, and strategic partnerships, it strives to build ocean stewards, advance research and conservation work, and nurture a coastal conservation ethic across communities.
